# 04:55:43: I think there should be a ban on any genital surgery done on kids. There is never a legitimate reason to do surgery on a child's genitals.

Wrong. Very much wrong. There are a lot of genital deformities/abnormalities that *do* need to be worked on. Things like blocked or incomplete urethras, for example. Or "open" urethras on males (ie the exit of the urethra is farther down the penis, or the portion along the bottom of the penis is "open" (ie instead of a tube, it's a slit running the length of the penis.)

That latter doesn't "need" to be fixed immediately, but the earlier it is fixed, the better the results. Waiting until the kid is old enough to ask changes it from minor surgery to something that many required repeated surgery and hospital visits.

"Correcting" most intersex conditions is easier too, but that needs to wait because which is the "right" way to "fix" it *does* depend on how the kid feels about it (at least at the current stage of medical science.

Circumcision is one of those things where it really gets into bounds on religion. Male circumcision (unless botched) is one of those things where damage is minimal and it's not something the religion gives any leeway on.

Most of the female practices are a very different story and *aren't* mandated by the religion at all. I say most because there's one that really is the female equivalent of male circumcision. They just remove the clitoral hood. But even that isn't from the Koran.

11:39:26: Voynich manuscript carbon dating results are in: http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-02-experts-age.html

Note that this merely proves the *parchement* is that old. A common forgers trick is to carefully remove blank pages from books of the right age and use them to create your forgery.

# 11:43:23: For fuck's sake: http://www.naturalnews.com/029098_orthorexia_mental_disorder.html

What the writer misses is that to qualify as a mental disorder it has to cause stress to the patient, and/or interfere with their ability to function.

Sort of like the difference between being careful about washing your hands (not a disorder) and *obsessing* about doing so.
