Interesting thought

I just had an interesting idea: a civilization wherein the women are traditionally scientists and engineers, etc, that kind of creating seen as a natural extension of the creation aspect of the feminine side.

I responded to this on DW, so I'll note this:

In short a world where agriculture would have to be seen as drudgery fit to men and which discovered means to reduce such minor things as death in childbirth and infant mortality by presumably at least the 17th Century. It *might* be possible if the Industrial Revolution happened in pre-Christian Imperial Roman culture which offered more opportunities for women, but I rather doubt that any culture recognizable to ours could pull this off.

Unless one pulls a Turtledove and simply and ruthlessly squishes the Butterfly effect.

My guess is that men would still be the major political and military leaders. Even if women end up being in charge of science, it's still going to be rather hard to make *warfare* a woman's field. Unless UAVs and suchlike start taking off rather faster.....
