This video is about a culture that has five accepted genders.

Thanks, lord_caramac!

EDIT: The region is South Sulawesi, a province of Indonesia. The people are the Bugis.

Is this a real culture? (Sorry if that gets answered by sound on the vid. I'm at a public library and don't have headphones.)

If it is, where is it and how can I get there? I still refuse to check the gender box on forms unless required and will continue to do so at least until they come up with at least a third option!

It is indeed a real culture. Don't know where they're located, but I guess a Google of their name could find that out. Or whatwasthatone could answer it.

Aha! The region is South Sulawesi, a provence of Indonesia. The people are the Bugis.

I've heard of other cultures similar to this. I think it was Polynesia somewhere that trans people are accepted as a third gender. But I'm not sure it was Polynesia.

Given that I am romantically and emotionally involved with a spirit who manifests both female and male aspects, this resonates very deeply with me. Thank you for this.
