A thought about human evolution

I find that many people, myself included, tend to think of human evolution going forward in only one direction. But I had an interesting thought. I was reading this article about an IT consulting company hiring mostly autistics and aspies because of their focus and attention to detail, and the fact most of them seem to be able to keep going when most minds go numb. I said to myself, "Further evidence autistics and aspies are the next step in human evolution."

But then I had my interesting thought. It occurred to me that humans would still need people who are good at social stuff, and also people who can see the big picture. So I got to thinking, what if future human society was made up of several different groups evolving in different directions but working together; auties and aspies going the geek route, another group getting better at socialization, a third group of philosophers and theorists, or something similar. Like different castes in an insect colony, specializing in certain tasks but all working together. Be an interesting thing to explore in some scifi work, though. Maybe even to the extent of a future human society being made of half a dozen or more different human *species* working symbiotically.
