OMG!

Okay, about an hour I turned on my laptop to see if I could connect it to my PC via this ethernet cable I have. Well, it didn't work, but I think the cable was broken, and I didn't really know what to do anyway. But that's not the funniness. What's funny is that I started the shut down process on my laptop, and it was shutting down nicely. I closed the lid and left it be. Just now I happened to look that way and saw the light from it on. I opened the lid to see what was going on, and apparently I had shut the lid prematurely. It was stuck halfway through the shutdown procedure by being in sleep mode. LOL! The battery is still full, though. (There's a button on the battery that you press and indicator lights come on.)

You can't connect two computers *directly* together via a standard ethernet cable. If you try, you are hooking the send lines on each end to the send lines on the other end. Ditto for the receive lines.

You need a crossover cable. And even then, it's not recommended. Or you can pick up a second ethernet cable (hell, if you help me re-arrange the bedroom so I can get at the cables, I'll *give* you one) and a hub, switch or router.

We saw lots of cheap ones at Goodwill the other day.

Ah, makes sense. I thought I must have been doing something wrong.

You'll also find Safari overriding you telling it to shut down leaving you with no battery life wears thin very quickly
