WIRELESS POWER! IT'S REAL NOW!

Chuck Norris Patrick Stewart meme on startrek. One of mine is featured! Also, scroll down for more of mine! :-D Oh gods, now I have a Chuck Norris one: "The only reason Jesus died on the cross was because Chuck Norris didn't want to go through the annoyance himself, and grabbed the nearest person to him to take his place."

19 cool but useless products. Actually, the virtual keyboard that uses lasers is pretty sweet!

Not quite sure what this is, but it looks cool.

Mars on a shoestring.

Take a trip in the Christmobile!

Meet the world's only immortal animal - a jellyfish.

Obama urges government to delay DTV conversion, because too many people don't have the equipment for it, and the government program subsidizing the purchase of said equipment is running out of dough.

The wireless power thing isn't really. It works at a distance of inches, and makes the gizmo use 10% more electricity.

The laser keyboard has been around for a few years and has the opposite problem us that DAS keyboard in the article. It's *literally* like typing on a brick. No tactile feedback at all.

The DTV conversion has been put off once already. It was originally scheduled to happen at the end of 2007. The delay was because the TV sellers were cheerfully selling analog-only TVs and not *telling* people they'd be useless in a couple of years.

That and the fact that it was almost impossible to find converter boxes.

*Now* we've got the publicity.

Also, the reason for the switch *isn't* to improve TV. It's to reclaim the bandwidth used by the analog channels. It's needed for other services.

We've run out of usable frequencies for things and have to eliminate bandwidth hogs (analog TV is definitely one) and make things use bandwidth more efficiently.

The DTV conversion will do that, and there are all sorts of services (like extra bands for police, fire, etc that are *waiting* for the switchover.

The real problem is that it's next to impossible to *shop around* for converters. Many places that carry them carry *one* model. Period. Take it or leave it. And since the coupon program makes them non-returnable, you'll be stuck with what you bought.

The fact that the lower end units have no useful info on the box, and the store clerks don't know anything about them (and won't let you open the box) doesn't help.

Ah! So THAT's why they're doing it! I'd wondered why. It seemed very strange for the government to step in on an issue like that, rather then letting the market determine the transition.

I don't believe you have. :-)

I just love Osaka-san. Everyone on Azumanga, but especially her and Sakaki.

I haven't seen many animes. Lessee... InuYasha, GITS:SAC, GITS, Elfen Leid, Fullmetal Alchemist, a little bit of Fooly Cooly, and there was this weird one where a girl lied about her dog getting run over by a car due to her negligence and created a monster. Oh, and Evangelion, and Moonphase. There may have been more.
