Steganography

For years, all throughout my obsession with cryptography, I've been trying to find what I call the Holy Grail of cryptography... a hidden message where you have to *know* that there's a hidden message there to even decode it. Then I found out that it has its own name: steganography!

I have indeed managed a few of these. But I'm trying to find one that's not only hidden from view, but is easy.

Speaking of steganography, find the hidden message in this picture:

A bit too obvious.

There's a way to get a Word doc to display as a jpeg or GIF, but still be readable as a word doc if you tell word to load it as a doc.

Someone was getting around censorship that way 10-15 years back.

If it's so obvious, then what is the message? :-)

What about the one in the Stephanie picture here? *Giggles*

It's on the tree trunk, but I haven't bothered trying to decode the code (the "letters" seem to be 2x3 pixels and trying to decode that is not worth the bother)

PS
The picture of Stephanie on the "Friends only" placeholder post is now, also, a steganographic piece.

Hmm... not seeing anything special when I take kengr's hint about MS word, but the image of the skull and crossbones in the midst of a flowering garden is an intriguing message by itself.

It's just my collar.

The picture of Stephanie on the "Friends only" placeholder post is now, also, a steganographic piece.

That wasn't a hint. It was a description of a more "subtle" method.

There is some camouflaged text.

Not as well done as this, though.

I have just stumbled across one of those areas where my standards are apparently a great deal higher than ordinary, and I hadn't realized that. Because if I were going to send a secret message, my preference would be either:

1) a standard communication mode, such as text or radio, in an obscure or invented language (like the famous Windtalkers); or

2) in a medium that nobody would recognize as a message.

Otherwise it's too obviously a code or cipher, and that just invites people to try picking at it.

Re: *blink*
I love all kinds of codes, secret languages, and so on. :-)

2) in a medium that nobody would recognize as a message.

Steganography. That's what I was trying to attempt here. I think I did better on this one, though.

That's so neat! Does it say 'where' somewhere in the image?

Nope.
