I could write for Star Trek

Watching Star Trek: Voyager, the episode called "Tuvix," where a transporter accident merges Neelix and Tuvok into one being called Tuvix. By the time they figure out a way to separate the two, Tuvix feels like his own person and doesn't want to die. In the end, they decide to go through with the split against Tuvix's wishes. I, being the geek I am, have a better alternative, a way for them to have their cake and eat it too. You know that episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation where some effect of this planet's atmosphere reflected part of Riker's pattern back to the planet, creating a second William T. Riker? Well, why couldn't they reprogram the transporter to duplicate the signal, make a copy of Tuvix, and then split the copy back into Neelix and Tuvok. Tuvix doesn't have to die, they get Neelix and Tuvok back, and have three crew members instead of two. Everyone wins!

Let's just say, I prefer happy endings.

shhh! You aren't supposed to remember plot devices from earlier episodes, much less episodes of different series in the Trek universe.

The number of episodes that just plain fall apart if the characters know about the past is enormous.

For example, consider how many times kironide injections would solve things...

TOS episode "Plato's Stepchildren"

Kironide was what gave those folks their TK abilities. And Dr McCoy was able to duplicate them by injecting Kirk with the stuff.

PS
A song by Voltaire poking gentle fun at Star Trek has a line in the song that goes: "U.S.S. Make-shit-up."
