Good poll - my only beef with it is that there's no "religion should stay far, FAR away from politics" option. "Don't be silly" is a bit mild for my ethics.

I agree that *religion* should stay away from politics, but politics is always an expression of one's *spirituality*, or lack thereof.

Question 2: left out agnostics

Case in point for 4: I think in whole most non-pagans view pagans as super hardcore lefties, but I know there are plenty of republican pagans on LJ.

Oops!

Republican Pagans. Yeah, they exist. I don't like most Republicans, regardless of their faith.

people who don't share my beliefs - it depends on the issue, but on a spiritual/religious level, I believe that my path is not the right path for everyone, and if my path IS right for someone, they will find it on their own.

Politics - a little bit. My religious beliefs and my political beliefs do relate to each other, but I would say that both extend from what I believe about life, death, and everything.

I checked off both atheist and anti-theist, just for the hell of it. I mean, how can I claim to be an iconoclast without smashing icons?

What if I'm usually liberal for conservative reasons, and sometimes conservative for liberal reasons?

I'm Unitarian Universalist, so I clicked both 'neo-pagan' and 'other' -- very Earth-spirituality driven in some ways.

I don't believe church and state should have a damn skippin' thing to do with each other. 'Do not kill' isn't a moral commandment really, it's just common sense! :P

I clicked all of the options for the last ticky question... I like ticky. But I also believe that things would be a lot less... what's the word I'm looking for? I don't know. A lot less angry and clashing and 'my religion is better than yours' if we all just took up sub-sets of the same thing and that faith didn't ask us all to believe exactly the same thing. or anywhere near close to it, beyond what the UUA already states as UU principles-- I quote--

  • The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
  • Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
  • Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
  • A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
  • The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
  • The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
  • Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

In other words... 'work out your own salvation'. I don't like to see so many people in the world hurting each other over religion.

Indeed. I used to go to a UU church, and then personal issues got in the way of me being able to go again. I should start that up again...

I think communist and socialist should be separate check boxes as they are actually quite different.

Fun Poll.

Of course spirituality should extend to the political if your beliefs are about being kind to each other. If you're a bible thumping redneck that wants to outlaw abortion, prevent education, exterminate them homos, etc. then you shouldn't have any say in politics or anything else! But I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Happy anarchy was the closest. I'm a gentle anarchist, who, for practical purposes is a fiscally conservative social progressive.

I was raised by agnostics but I believe in reincarnation and the divinity within each of us, and sort of a pantheistic approach, also I believe our higher selves are connected with each other in a sort of "heavan" separate from the timespace realm, and I do not believe in any "hell" other than the suffering we come to these incarnations to learn about. But I don't know that that has a specific religion name.

Under the religion category, I'm Pastafarian.
And I really could have used a much, much, much stronger 'NO' option on the religion and politics question.

As to people of other spiritual and world views, my opinion is this: they leave me alone, I leave them alone. I don't particularly care what they believe. I am glad that they have found a path in life that makes them feel happy, whole, and connected to something larger. However, their path is not necessarily my path and as long as we're both clear on that, I'm ok.

I like the option for Satanist. I wish more people actually knew what Satanism was about. Tempered with a healthy dose of 'others still exist, try not to break them' it is a wise and empowering philosophy. I find too many people who fall on religion as a crutch, instead of a strengthening factor.

Actually, I don't think this was a very good poll. Mostly it was the wording. You were trying to make it entertaining, but that made it difficult to find the stuff that applied to me. Even the stuff that did apply to me felt too ridiculous and biased, and I had to figure out what did apply to me.

I'm the very very definition of agnostic, middle-of-the-road liberal, and I'm not really outspoken, but I do stand up for myself. I didn't see a whole lot of stuff that could apply

as for people who dont share my veiws/opinions/spiritual beliefs and so on and so forth...

doesnt bother me at all. we are all different people, who all have different pths. no one will ever like the same exact things or have the same thoughts on any one subject, so i dont think there is ONE set religion of system of beliefs for EVERYONE.

as long as people respect me, i will do the same for them. as long as they do it for them, and it is right for them, and it makes them happy and comfortable and they are not hurting anyone in the process, then good for them.

"No, I don't think about things like that. I just live.
No, I am not sure what is True, if anything. I am an agnostic."

I'm both of those answers and they weren't check boxes.
