The Sky-Eyes and the Earth-Hearts

ysabetwordsmith started a fascinating poem some time back about two alien species in a form of symbiosis inspired by a similar symbiosis of two similar Earth organisms. It's a long poem, but definitely worth the read, and has been funded in bits and pieces for weeks. The poem is now fully funded, so you can read it here. The background of the poem is here.

Cynical quote of the day

"Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast and the taste is... fleeting. So, you end up with nothing but broken bits filled with hardened jelly and teeth-shattering nuts. And if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you got left is an empty box filled with useless brown paper wrappers."
---Cancer Man from the X-Files episode "Musings of a Cigarette-Smoking Man"

Went on a walk today

I went on a walk today because I do that sometimes when I'm really depressed. I just got on Google Maps, and through a convoluted series of figurings (and their new "walking directions" feature), I figure I walked 5.2 miles today.

For anyone better at math than me, since I'm not sure you can just add these numbers up when it comes to miles, here are the details:

My apartment to the Fred Meyer's1 on Glisan - 0.8 miles
Glisan Freddy's to the Gateway Freddy's2 - 2.1 miles
2nd Freddy's to DMV3 on 82nd - 1.4 miles
DMV to home - 0.9 miles

1 = I bought some paper towels there, and then continued on my walk.
2 = Merely passed by this one, used it as a waypoint.
