Burner trouble

My CD burner has long worked okay as a drive, but will not burn anything. I even tried installing Nero, and that didn't work. I hope I don't need a new one.

Also, my processor is slow. How much to upgrade?

The burner problem could be a driver conflict or something. Hard to say.

As for upgrading, if your box is a consumer appliance type box (HP, Compaq, Dell, etc) you essentially throw it out and buy a new box. Those things are *designed* for limited upgradability.

Make and model info is necessary to figure out what the possibilities are.

Dell, um... Dimension? That's all I know.

There should be some letters and numbers that go with the "Dimension" part.

If all else fails, check the label on the back.

In any case, it's virtually certain that you can't upgrade the motherboard without buying a new case & power supply. Upgrading the CPU is iffy. And it may well not be worth the hassle.

Upgrading the RAM may be possible. How expensive depends on the age of the system and other factors.

Only limit on upgrading the HD is that if your system is old enough, it might not be able to handle anything over 120 gig (which means an 80 gig since they don't seem to sell 120s anymore) unless we can disable the built-in controller and add a new controler card.
