Fri, 08:00: just-shower-thoughts: The pryamids of Egypt were as old to the Roman Empire as the Roman Empire is to us... https://t.co/JX8pK7olUQ

Reminds me of a discussion on the Traveller mailing list, years back. The standard setting is the Third Imperium. Set about 4000 AD (1100 by their reckoning).

Anyway, when discussing nuclear reactors (and bombs) it was pointed out that they (the offshoot of humanity that'd founded the First Imperium) had had nuclear power longer than earth has had writing.

That drew a bunch of folks up short. And changed the tenor of the discussion considerably. :-)

Neat.

The Ah'Koi Bahnis were building cities and writing before humans figured out how to make fire. I haven't decided yet if the species of AKB that did all that is the same species as "present day," given the time scale involved.

It could also (and more reasonably) be referring to girls who don't have the whole "I'm beautiful, bow down before me" BS going.

Fri, 10:40: dragginage: please please please teach your children to cook while they still live under your roof. even... https://t.co/UJmxKjhwle

Cub scouts required you to learn to tie your shoes, and to be able to cook a simple breakfast (probably other stuff, but I recall those two).

Also, camping in Boy scouts kinda required you to learn to cook.

Mind you, cooking on the stove is *way* different than over a fire.

I ruined a lot of food the first month or so in my apartment.

You don't even have to be AS. All that's required is that the other person *assumes* that you know something because *they* know it.

Happens to kids a lot, but can happen to adults too.
