Because the "old folks" that have trouble with laptops (and other "tech" stuff) have it because of stuff that can't *practically* be designed around.
It's like the way my mom couldn't figure out that clock radio. She just didn't "get" the idea of typing in the frequency for the radio and typing in the time to set the clock.
You can only simplify things so far. After that, you need to *train* folks rather than keep simplifying.
And the "old folks" aren't going to get themselves trained.
btw, many of the faults of Microsoft products are due to them deciding to simplify *too far*. They gained users, but created huge problems with security and other things.
Sure, you've got the rent money and more.
You only need one kidney, right?
Could be worse. Imagine being an American kid in the UK who was named "Roger".
