Tue, 18:00: "There is 25 times more solar energy available every year than the Earth’s total coal reserves." - DivPower... http://t.co/9n3xRr5s4Q

I want to see the math.

Betcha a cookie that the figures involve assuming no cloud cover and "paving" the entire globe with solar cells. And ignoring the fact that solar cells aren't 100% efficient.

BTW, solar power contributes to global warming. Solar cells are almost always *darker* than what would be there otherwise, and that means that the solar energy they don't convert to electricity gets converted to heat.

For a 33% efficient panel, that means that for very watt of power produced, you get 2 watts of heat dumped into the atmosphere.

I dunno, but I do know that if every paved surface in the US were replaced by solar roadways (which are a thing that actually exist now), we'd be making at least three times more energy than we currently even use.

Also, some people did the math and discovered that if even 1/4th of the Sahara Desert were covered in solar panels, it would make enough electricity to cover all the power needs for everyone on Earth at present rates of consumption. Something another 1/8th that size could power all of Europe.

Wed, 01:15: Deposit news - So apparently here in Oregon, they have this law that says if can and bottle recycling is... http://t.co/odOSavpO4r

I'm not sure that "doubles" is what the law says. Next raise might only be to 15 cents.

Also, something you young folks don't realize. Back in the days of glass bottles, the 12 oz ones were 5 cents. The quart ones were 25 cents!
