Saint Vincent de Paul

So to get food from the food boxes place run by Saint Vincent de Paul of Portland, you have to call them and answer some questions. If you don't, then you get less food if you just drop in without calling. The problem with this is that EVERY EFFING TIME that I call, it takes a fucking half an hour on hold, and I rarely get through at all. I just gave up after being on hold for FORTY FUCKING MINUTES. I only had 60 minutes left on that phone to begin with.

I know I keep saying this, but I've had it. I am not calling them again. I found an email address and I'm trying that. I hope it works, because I am not wasting my precious time again on those pointless calls.

You could have borrowed my phone. Also, there's a phone by the office you can use.

You might also *complain* at them about wasting your minutes. Tell them you *can't* spend all that time on hold.

Apparently there IS only 1 person answering calls. I suggested getting a cheap Tracfone to use as a voicemail line, ease that person's burden a bit.

Better would be to do manually what Social Security and other agencies do via automation.

Answer the phone, Say "can you hold?" if yes, put them on hold and note the line on a list. If no, get a callback number, and write it down. Folks who can't afford the minutes get their place in "line" that way, folks who can wait on hold can do so too.

Just work down the list. If the person isn't on hold but has a callback number, call them. If they don't answer in a reasonable number of rings, move them to the end of the list and cross them off. Then go to the next entry.

ps. IM, please?
