The test for a 2-way mirror is bogus.

All it does is "detect" whether the mirror coating is on your side of the mirror.

You can make a 2-way mirror with the coating in the *middle* (between two layers of glass/plastic.

Or, if the 2-way mirror is mounted with the other side out, it will *still* work as a 2-way mirror, but the test would say you are safe.

Y'see the way the 2-way mirrors work is that the coating passes *some* light. So by keeping the lights really dim on one side, folks on that side can see what's happening on the other side, but they can't be seen by folks on the "bright" side.

Make lights dim enough on the other side and you might be able to see the folks on the "hidden" side.

A trick I've heard of, but don't know if it'd actually work, is pressing a flash attachment for a camera against the glass and triggering it. Supposedly, it's so bright that enough light leaks thru that you can see what's on the other side.
