Tree replacements

Portland is undertaking a project in the Sellwood area to remove a bunch of ill, non-native trees, and replace them with native species of trees. While they do that, they're going to remove a bunch of English ivy. I say good! Native trees are better, and that English ivy is a pest. It's pretty, but it's evil. It's like kudzu, it grows everywhere, and what's worse, it chokes trees to death. I often fantasize about it all just dying off. Yet some people keep it in their yards because, as I mention, it's pretty.

Personally, I think Portland should ban the use of English ivy in landscaping, and offer some kind of monetary incentive to destroy any English ivy that happens to grow on its own in your yard. Not sure how that would work, but it's a thought.
