On bus: a barefoot man, & an infant wearing what looks like prescription glasses her size. Why would an infant need glasses? How would you know if she did?

The usual reason for glasses on an infant is either "lazy eye" (in which case the glasses are designed to force the "lazy" eye to develop), or possibly congenital cataracts. It's important for a newborn to be able to see clearly - if there's a problem early on, it can interfere with the child's ability to process visual inputs in the future.

Ah, makes sense. Thanks.

BTW, it got chopped in half. I edited it to show what went missing.

Congenital strabismus can lead to amblyopia, or "lazy eye". Strabismus can be detected even in infants; it's not difficult to determine whether or not the eyes track together. The glasses refract the image to the weaker eye, making it track with the stronger one, so that the child's visual processing ability develops evenly.
