Damn it all!

Well, my car died on me the other day. Apparently, I need to learn how to take the car in for regular maintenence checks. I feel like shit, because the engine needs replaced and I haven't even finished paying for the car yet. The oil in the engine had apparently turned to tar, which is why the accelerator stopped working. Though that doesn't explain, to me, why the brakes froze. Of course, I know about as much about how cars work as I do about the mating habits of the giant squid. (Actually, I probably know more about the sex lives of giant squid than I do about how cars work.)

Then, as if my wonderful day couldn't get any more wonderfuller, two of the most evil people I know (Nancy and Norm Cottrell of Creston, IA; former landlords with a reputation as being slumlords who rip people off and never fix anything) not only came in to eat but won the jackpot at the casino.

Why do shitheads like that win money when the people who could really use it don't? Though I guess the odds were in their favor... those two gamble so much that they have hundreds of thousands of Player's Club points, where most people are doing good to have enough points to pay for a meal at the Bougainvillea Cafe/Buffet where I work.

I'll be so glad when I get a halfway decent life. Though not half as glad as when I finally croak. Which is a long way away, I'm sure.

On the upside, the trip to and from work was fun. The lady I'm getting rides from (Barb) is really funny and we were talking nonstop each way! Which it's very unusual for me to hit it off so well so quickly with anyone.

Sorry to hear about your car. I think the brakes are a totally separate problem. I had a landlord from hell, too. I am very lucky he doesn't bother my husband and I anymore. I do have trouble getting anything done where I live now. A $200 light bill for one month in a one bedroom apartment. Yep, because they waited 27 days to come and fix the HVAC. And the guy who worked on it the first time and screwed it up isn't HVAC certified. They don't want to take any responsibility for anything over the average for that apartment which they are legally responsible for as we had to put in almost daily maintence requests. So we are getting a lawyer into the situation. Maybe that will give them a wake up call?? I don't know. Landlords suck!

@Alex, I read this entry...

I still think you should switch repair men though.

Does Fay have non internet friends she can ask about new mechanics?

My friends are her friends. We're a collective.

It's a moot point now, though. There's no way we can afford a new engine. We'll have to junk the poor thing. *Sigh* My poor baby...

You might not need a new engine. He might just be telling you that trying to get money out of you...

This is not Carlisle, it's a different place. And they said that the oil had all turned to tar.

Plus, the only maintenence I ever remember getting on that car is when it was acting up. And the only thing that ever acted up on it was the windows, once the door wouldn't shut, and another time one of the rear-view mirrors broke off.
