In reference to the last item... the Ku Klux Klan is identified as a "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization that has identified and fought hate groups of every kind since at least the early 1960s.

Yes, but they're not with the government, AFAIK. The FBI hasn't identified the KKK as a hate group yet, AFAIK.

The last time the FBI ran a background check on me, they were using the list of terrorist organizations put out by the SPLC - yes, the KKK was on the list.

And yet KKK have rallies and protests in public places and none of the authorities does anything about it. BLM stages a peaceful protest, they get cops in riot gear gassing them and beating them up. KKK members hold violent, hate-speech filled rallies and the cops give the KKK members protection.

A long time ago, the ACLU defended the Klan's right to hold a protest/rally. The argument was that the Constitutional guarantee of freedom of speech applied to all speech, however distasteful its content. The only exception is speech that specifically includes a threat (e.g., "We've got to cleanse America of those filthy Latvians - throw 'em all in the ocean!") The KKK is defined as a "hate group", because of their long history of racist violence - however, the mere existence of a hate group is not illegal, only the illegal activities it may perform.

Way back when I was a hippie, back in the previous millennium, my friends and I were liable to get tear-gassed, beaten, dragged off to temporary "detainment" areas, and even arrested and put in real jails, not for belonging to any particular group, but just for saying out loud that we thought that wars in general, and the Vietnam War in particular, should not exist. But in the end, we did stop that war, and compelled a sitting President to resign before he could be impeached, just by singing in the streets. (*wanders off, singing, "All we are saying... is Give Peace A Chance...")

(The reason the cops don't harass the KKK the way they harass BLM is, of course, because most of the cops have friends, or at least friends-of-friends, with Klan leanings, but far fewer cops - not even Black cops- have friends involved in BLM.)</font>

The reason the cops protect the KKK is that most of them are members.

Only in the Deep South. None of the cops I've ever known personally (living within sight of the skyline of Manhattan all my life) have been members of the KKK, or any other organization besides stuff like the PBA (Police Benevolent Association), the Boy Scouts, that sort of thing.
